Objective To understand the psychological status of patients with type 2 diabetes in Weifang community, and to analyze the factors affecting the psychological status of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus in contracting community health service and to provide evidence for general practitioners having more targeted psychological counseling for patients with type 2 diabetes.
Methods A total of 529 patients who live in Weifang community from 2010 till now and have already enrolled in community health service were surveyed by systematic sampling method and health questionnaire for Symptom Checklist 90 (SCL-90), social support revalued scale and a questionnaire involving population characteristics. At the same time, the influencing factors and social support condition of psychological status of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus in contracting community health service were analyzed.
Results In this study, total score and each factor score in SCL-90 of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus in contracting community health service were higher than the national norm. Age, job, income, and occupation of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus have effects on some factors of SCL-90. The course of diabetes has an effect on all factors of SCL-90, and a few have significant effects. There was a significant negative correlation between social support and factors in SCL-90 of type 2 diabetes mellitus in contracting community health service.
Conclusion The psychological health of the patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus in contracting community health service is not optimistic. Different demographic factors can have different effects on the psychological condition of type 2 diabetes mellitus in contracting community health service. General practitioners should give more effective psychological counseling and social support to patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus in contracting community health service who have different demographic characteristics.
