Curative effect of sertraline hydrochloride tablets on depression in patients with ulcerative colitis

Objective To investigatethe curative effect of sertraline hydrochloride tablets in the treatment of depression in patients with ulcerative colitis and provide an effective drug intervention for depression. Methods Total 74 patients with ulcerative colitis complicated with depression were randomly divided intoobservation group(42 cases) and control group(32 cases).In addition to support treatment and psychological intervention,the observe group received also sertraline combined and mesalazine,while the control group received only mesalazine.Ulcer colitis activity index(UCAI),depression self-rating scale(SDS) and Hamilton Depression Rating Scale(HAMD) of both groups was evaluated. Results After thetreatment,UCAI,SDS and HAMD scale scores in both groups were decreased as compared with the values before treatment,the differences were statistically significant(t=8.074,8.679,13.269,6.906,3.321,7.604,P<0.05);There was no significant difference in UCAI between the two groups after the treatment(t=0.972,P>0.05).After the treatment,SDS and HAMD scale scores of the observation group were lower than those in the control group(t=3.958,2.945,P<0.05).After the treatment,the total effective rate for ulcerative colitis in the observation group was 71.43%(30/42),and in the control group was 65.63%(21/32),the difference was not statistically significant(χ²=0.286,P>0.05).After the treatment,the total effective rate of depression of the observation group was 78.57%(33/42),and the total effective rate of the control group was 53.13%(17/32),χ²=5.367,P<0.05.During the treatment,the adverse drug reaction rate of the observation group was 19.05%(8/42) and in the control group was 21.88%(7/32),there was no statistically significant difference(χ²=0.090,P>0.05). Conclusion Among the patients receiving mesalazine for ulcer colitis,the administration of sertraline can play good role in the treatment of depression,without increase in the incidence of adverse drug reactions.
