An investigation of subjective well-being and influential factors of undergraduate male nursing students

  • Objective To explore the level and influencing factors of subjective well-being(SWB) among undergraduate male students,and to indicate the direction of how to improve the subjective well-being. Methods The self-made general information questionnaire and Happiness Scale Questionnaire were used to test the SWB among 328 undergraduate male nursing students and 466 undergraduate female nursing students in Bengbu Medical College and Wannan Medical College. Results ①The scores of life satisfaction(23.7 9±6.81) and positive effects(33.37±8.11) among undergraduate male nursing students were at a moderate-high level,the scores of negative effects(28.70±10.96)was at a moderate-low level.②There were significant differences between undergraduate female and male nursing students in subjective well-being,positive effects and negative effects(P<0.05),the score of subjective well-being in undergraduate male nursing students(141.90±25.36)was lower than that of undergraduate female nursing students(148.56±25.24);There was a significant difference in grade in negative effects(P<0.01).The score of subjective well-being(144.91±24.31)was the highest in two undergraduate male nursing students;③Family relationships was significant differences in subjective well-being,positive effects and negative effects (P<0.01);Family income was a significant difference in subjective well-being,life satisfaction and negative effects(P<0.05);Professional attitude was a significant difference in subjective well-being and life satisfaction(P<0.01);Physical health was a significant difference in subjective well-being and each dimension(P<0.05);④Multiple linear regression analysis showed that the influencing factors of undergraduate male nursing students’ subjective well-being were family income,health status,professional attitude and family relationships(P<0.05). Conclusion The undergraduate male nursing students experience higher life satisfaction and positive effects and less negative effects,SWB is relatively good,according to the influencing factors of promoting happiness measures.
