Role of quality control circle in improvement of nursing service quality in psychiatry department

Objective To study the role of quality control circle( QCC) in enhancing the high quality nursing service in psychiatry department. Methods We implemented the quality control circle activity at the department of psychiatry. The cause of defects existing in the process of implementation of the quality of nursing service was analyzed. After selecting the theme activities,the targeted strategy and reform program were establish and implemented to promote the high quality nursing service. Results QCC activity increased the overall pass rate of nursing service from 82. 45% to 96. 57%,the difference was statistically significant( χ²= 17. 47,P < 0. 001). The pass rate for the aspects of nursing papers writing,health propaganda and education,mastering patient's condition,basic nursing and specialized nursing care were significantly improved( P < 0. 001). The overall satisfaction of inpatients with psychiatric nursing service rose from 80. 32% to95. 10% after the intervention( χ²= 20. 25,P < 0. 001). As compared with the control group,the service attitude and initiatives of nurse staffs,ward environment,provided convenient service,health propaganda and education were significantly improved( P < 0. 05). Conclusion The quality control circle activity can significantly reduce the defects and problems during the implementation process of quality nursing service,and improve the nursing quality and patients satisfaction. The quality control circle activities can be promoted in the department of psychiatry.
