Objective To analyze the results researching the function of external application of potato slices and magnesium sulfate wet packing in treating mannitol extravasation, explore the curative effect of external application of potato slices, and provide the evidence-based nursing practice for the treatment of mannitol extravasation.
Methods A online search was conducted by using the resources of CNKI,WanFang Database,CBM,VIP Database,Cochrane Library,Pubmed and Web of Science. The randomized controlled trials on the efficacy in treating Mannitol extravasation between external application of potato slices and 50% Magnesium Sulfate wet packing were screened via the exclusion and inclusion creteria. Then two researchers evaluated the papers quality respectively and extracted data.A Meta-analysis was performed by using RevMan 5.3 software.
Results A total of 11 studies involving 818 patients with Mannitol venous effusion were included.Meta-analysis showed that the recovery rate and significant efficiency in potato group were apparently higher than Magnesium Sulfate group[RR=1.39,95%
CI(1.14-1.69),
P<0.001].The inefficiency in the potato group was obviously lower than the Magnesium Sulfate group[RR=0.35,95%
CI(0.19-0.65),
P<0.001].The funnel plot showed no publication bias.
Conclusion The potato slice has a better effect in treating 20% Mannitol extravasation as compare with 50% Magnesium Sulfate, without adverse reactions,non-toxic,and low cost,so it can be widely used in clinical.
