Objective To explore the effect of psychological intervention on glucose metabolism in community patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) with depressive symptoms.
Methods Four hundred and ten cases of T2 DM patients in the community health service center of Baotou friendship office were selected as the research objects.According to Zung self rating depression scale (SDS) for evaluation and analysis,we found that 176 cases of T2 DM with depression. One hundred and seventy-six cases of T2 DM with depression were randomly divided into the study group and the control group with 88 cases in each group. The control group was treated with routine treatment, while the experimental group was received of psychological treatment on the basis of conventional treatment. After 3 months of psychological intervention, fasting blood glucose (FPG),postprandial two hours blood glucose (PG2h),glycosylated hemoglobin (Hb A1c) and Zung self rating Depression Scale (SDS) were measured in two groups. After two months intervention being stopped, the follow-up was conducted to determine the levels of FPG,PG2 h,and Hb A1 c,and to assess the level of depression and quality of life.Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS 17.0 statistical software.
Results After 3months of psychological intervention, the results of FPG,PG2 h and Hb A1 c in the experimental group were significantly lower than those in the control group, the depression index was significantly lower than that of the control group, the difference was statistically significant (
P<0.01).After two months intervention being stopped, the glucose metabolism indexes of the experimental group were significantly lower than that of the control group;the depression index was dramatically lower than that of the control group, the difference was remarkable (
P<0.01).
Conclusion Mental intervention can effectively improve the depression symptoms and glucose metabolism of community type 2 diabetes patients with depression, but it takes a long time.
