Objective To study the early changes of corneal morphology in high school adolescents wearing overnight orthokeratology.
Methods A total of 60 adolescent myopia patients (117 eyes) meeting the standards of wearing overnight orthokeratology in our hospital from September,2014 to September,2015 were enrolled and divided into group A (58 eyes, myopia ≤-3.00 D) and group B (59 eyes,-3.00 D
Results The uncorrected visual was improved significantly one day after wearing overnight orthokeratology in both groups, and became more stable one week later. The corneal curvature recovered as compared with that before wearing the glasses, and the thickness of cornea got thinner with different degrees, and became more stable 1,3 and 6 months later. The curative effect of group B was more obvious as compared with group A with a statistically significant difference (P<0.05).Through with varying degrees of dry eye symptoms, the changes of corneal morphology including optic axial length, anterior chamber depth and intraocular pressure were not significant as compared with those before wearing the glasses in both groups (P>0.05). Conclusion To wear overnight orthokeratology can in a short time improve the uncorrected visual acuity and prevent the development of myopia, especially for the moderate myopia,it is a safe, fast and effective treatment for adolescent myopia, and worth popularizing in clinical use.
