Sepsis is a systemic disease with life-threatening organ dysfunction due to a dysregulated host response to infection, and characterized by high morbidity, high mortality and high cost.Despite of the fact that large number of studies has confirmed the beneficial therapeutic strategy, clinical results are not very satisfactory, and the overall mortality rate of sepsis has not been significantly improved. And organ damage induced by sepsis, especially cognitive dysfunction caused by brain injury resulting from sepsis is increasingly prominent in the clinic.Cognitive dysfunction caused by sepsis is performed by decline and executive dysfunctions in memory, attention, visuospatial ability and etc, thus it makes the patient's quality of life declined, makes the medical and social care costs increased, which is becoming a great burden for families and society. Therefore, the emphasis on prevention and treatment to sepsis brain injury is of great significance. This paper reviews the research on cognitive dysfunction resulting from sepsis, epidemiology, hazards, pathogenesis and treatment of the status quo to discuss this issue in order to provide reference for readers.
