Therapeutic effect of the fixed-removable partial denture repair for dentition defect and the investigation of oral health related quality of life

Objective To explore the therapeutic effect of the fixed-removable partial denture repair for dentition defect and investigate the oral health related quality of life,and provide the basis for better repair effect. Methods Total 113 patients with dentition defect treated in our department from January,2012 to January,2014 were enrolled in this study and divided into observation group and control group.The observation group was repaired with the fixed-removable partial denture and the control group was repaired with the removable partial denture.Six months after the treatment,the oral health related quality of life(OHRQOL) was enquired by the OHIP-14.After two years,the therapeutic effect and the gingival bleeding index(GBI) were evaluated by dentition defect standard of American public health association. Results The total scores of the OHIP-14 in the observation group was significantly lower than that in the control group(P<0.05).After two years,the ranked data(effective,effective and ineffective) had no statistically significant difference between the two groups(Z=0.825,P=0.409).Compared with that before the installation of denture,GBI of both groups were significantly decreased(P<0.05).Compared with the control group,the GBI was decreased more significant in the observation group(P<0.05). Conclusion The fixed-removable partial denture repair can be more effective than the removable partial denture repair in the treatment of the dentition defect,and patients would have a better long-term oral health and OHRQOL.
