Beginning with the concept, location，characteristics and significance of community health service (CHS), taking the development of CHS in 70 years which is from the foundation of the People's Republic of China till now as time axis, the author of this paper focuses on the development of CHS in China, the real problems and the achievements in CHS so far. Traced back to the history of CHS in China, it has experienced the embryonic stage, pilot stage, as well as initial stage and self-rapid development stage in turn. However, there are still some existing problems, such as unbalanced development of CHS across this country, the constrained sustainable development of CHS, the constrained service for society offered by CHS. CHS is unattractive both to the staff and community residents. Some relevant policies and mechanisms have not been implemented reasonably. With the development of health in our country, our CHS meets this developing opportunity and obtains achievement, such as the increasing number of CHS institution and the gradually formed network of CHS across this country, as well as the enlarged and strengthened professional teams of CHS institutions. What's more, the professional quality of the staff in CHS, including their educational levels and their titles of technical posts is continuously promoted, and the facilities along with equipment of CHS are improved. So the service capability of CHS is obviously enhanced. The number of diagnosis and treatment services provided by CHS increases continuously. In the end, the future of community health service is also looked forward to.
