Objective To evaluate the clinical effectiveness of voice therapy on patients with vocal cord polyps after phonomicrosurgery.
Methods In experimental group, there were 55 patients with vocal cord polyps after phonomicrosurgery underwent voice therapy. Laryngostroboscopy, voice handicap index(VHI),and dysphonia Severity Index(DSI) were applied for evaluation of the patients' voice quality. In control group,no voice therapy was given to 41 patients after phonomicrosurgery. The inter-group and intra-group differences of laryngostroboscopy,VHI,and DSI were compared statistically.
Results No statistical inter-group differences of mucosal wave and incomplete glottal closure were found between two groups before and after surgery. No statistical inter-group differences of values of VHI and MPT,Jitter,F0-High,ILow,DSI were found between two groups before surgery. The values of VHI improved after surgery in two groups, and the values of VHI in experimental group were all lower than those in control group after surgery. The value of Jitter in experimental group was lower than that in control group after surgery. Jitter,I-Low,and DSI improved after surgery in experimental group, but in control group Jitter and DSI got better after surgery.
Conclusion Laryngostroboscopy,VHI,and DSI could assess voice quality of patients with vocal polyps comprehensively. Voice therapy could improve patients' self-evaluated voice quality and vocal stability after phonomicrosurgery.
