Objective To compare the effects of muscular activator and FRⅡ type of functional activator for teenagers'high angle skeletal class Ⅱ malocclusion, thus to provide proper reference for clinical choices.
Methods Fifty-two teenagers with high angle skeletal class Ⅱ malocclusion registered in our hospital from August,2013 to December,2015 were selected and randomly divided into observation group and control group, with 26 patients in each group. And the control group was given the FRⅡ functional activator treatment, and the observation group was given the activator treatment. After three months of treatment,to observe the prognosis of deformity and to count and calculate the quantitative index of mandible and maxillary positions as well as the soft tissue profiles.
Results After the treatment, the teeth arrangement in two groups were in neat rows, meanwhile the opening degree and open type were normal. The molar and the cuspid builds proper relations. The upper and lower lips returned to normal and the facial profiles were improved prominently. The total length of the lower dental arch in the two groups were significantly higher after the treatment (
P<0.05),while the total length of the lower dental arch in the observation group after treatment were significantly higher (
P<0.05).The total length of the upper dental arch compared before and after treatment and within groups were all not statistically significant (
P>0.05).Apart from no significant change of SNA angle (
P>0.05),the SNB angle of the two groups after treatment were significantly increased, and the ANB angle were significantly reduced. There were statistical significance both within and between the two groups (
P<0.05).
Conclusion Muscular activator and FRⅡ type of functional activator for teenagers'high angle skeletal class Ⅱ malocclusion have good treatment effects, especially the activator which is more conducive to improve relations and promote soft tissue profile improvement. Therefore,it has great application value.
